  this information is supposed to be in the upcoming march wt.

  (i don’t go on jw dot org).

  it would sound like they are hinting at a change in thinking.. in my opinion, any such change would be yet another slap in the face to faithful pimis along with those other recent changes.. there are so many heartfelt responses on that thread and a lot of justified anger.. don’t know what to say except that i’m so glad i never listened to the religion all those years ago.

  This is very satisfying. For one thing, advising people to prepare for their old age is prudent, but it is also SO GOOD to see that The Watchtower is essentially admitting that all the "inspired advice" from the era of the Knorr/Franz two-headed wild beast was baseless speculation largely due to the imagination of a man who saw himself as an "oracle," supported by the "oracle's irrational fanatic true believers.

  Remember, folks, just because you believe something doesn't make it true. That is what I believe.

  Why do most Ex jW W‘s seem to be liberal?

  i’m just curious about this dynamic i don’t care personally one way or the other but i do have friends who have chosen to be conservatives and they get totally destroyed on social media pages for their choice.

  it’s almost like a lot of ex jw w become as toxic and his judgmental as jehovah’s witnesses themselves what’s up with that?

  i also know conservative ex jw’s that can do the same so again i’m not leaning one way or the other i’m just noticing factual observations.

  A.: They seem to be that way because they are. JWs are typically gullible, economically disadvantaged people inclined toward laziness who are poorly educated and enjoy believing in a free lunch. If Jehovah won't give it to them, perhaps the totalitarian state will.

  Here's how you migh do this:

  Tell him that you will give him, say, $5,000 dollars right now in exchange for the title to his house. You will allow him to remain in his house until his death, (which he knows will NEVER come) but upon his death the house becomes yours.

  You wait... He eventually dies. You put his former, but now YOUR house on the market for its fair value and use the proceeds to provide other JWs with similar "windfall mad money profits." You never explain to any JW exactly how this plan works.

  Sure a real reverse mortgage might be a wiser course for him, but we're looking out for YOU now, right? (Just like the banks that look out for themselves.)

  Does this sound perhaps"unethical"? By what standard?
  

  No, it is almost exactly what the WATCHTOWER does when it takes estates from the heirs of elderly witnesses, except that the WATCHTOWER doesn't give the ld fools $5,000 mad money to enjoy in their dotage!

  in an earlier thread another poster asserted that there is no evidence that revelation 3:14 played a part in the 4th controversy that led to the trinity doctrine.

  this was claimed as evidence that the description of jesus as “the beginning of the creation of god” in the verse was not understood to mean that jesus was god’s first creation.

  the scholarly greek–english lexicon of the new testament & other early christian literature 3e (2001) by bauer, arndt, gingrich, and danker, in its latest edition states that “first creation” is indeed the probable meaning of the greek phrase.

  Historian and former JW Jim Penton dies

  i don’t know a lot about james penton but i think he deserves a better thread than the one currently on offer.

  james penton, who died recently, grew up in a jw family in canada and served as an elder.

  unusually for a jw, he studied liberal arts at university and became a history professor.

  Gavindlt, if one's character can be judged by the number of his followers, then Jim Jones and Kamala Harris are demigods.

  Professor Penton is in mythical Sheol, a metaphysical "place" that even the inspired scholars at The Watchtower could not explain. Wherever he is or is not, Schrödinger's James Penton knows nothing now.

  Actually, Wingnut, 15 YEARS ago Farkel mentioned that The Reverend Professor Penton had used Farkel's work without attribution, and It was at about this same time on thins forum when I mentioned "Timothy White's" accusation against Penton and here where Penton denied it.

  But you didn't know that, did you?

  I think that one of Simon's projects for this site is to give it a world-class search capability that will make it far easier to find old posts. Once that is done, Wingnut, you be able to educate yourself.

  4 Year old JW has suicidal ideations?

  today i made a post on linkedin about having suicidal thoughts since the age of 8. had lots of supportive comments.

  one lady said her son was suicidal from the age of 4. i was freaked out.

  then she sent me the message below.. i hope she was counting her time!.

  I grant that MANY people in the world come from shittier backgrounds than I did, but my origin story is shitty enough. I'm not trying to score pity points. A child has no idea about whether his circumstanes are good or bad, they simply ARE what they ARE. It is only later as he is able to understand the variety if circumstances that he can figure out where on the SHIT bell curve he sits.
  

  I can remember wishing for non-existence when I was 7 or 8 years old. I'm 75 now. I've experimented several times throughout the years. I support the Hemlock Society. I'm not at all surprised to hear of others with similar experiences.

  Someday not too far from now my yearning for non-existence will be granted, but right now I have obligations more important than myself. When they are fulfilled I will vaporize like Melchizedek, and as I slip away I will smile and think "At last it is over."

  (Hebrews 7:3, states "Melchizedek had no father or mother, and there is no record of his ancestors. He was never born and never died.)
